Curricula Consulting for Humanities Courses

Do you need some extra help with your curriculum design for your humanities course?

I would be happy to help!

I have over ten years of experience designing curricula and teaching an array of humanities courses, and designing excellent learning experiences for students of all backgrounds brings me great joy.

I specialize in forward-thinking, DEIJ(B)-informed curricula design for high school humanities courses, but I have worked with on curricula design for kids of all ages. I especially love helping kids feel confident telling the stories they want to tell about themselves and the world around them. Currently, I am working with Tinker and Create on creating storytelling courses for kids interested in STEM.

“Raising the Vibration” Consulting for Schools

The mindfulness movement in schools has been a powerful tool for creating social and emotional learning environments in schools that center collective well-being.

While studies suggest that mindfulness techniques can reduce stress and and lengthen student attention spans, there have also been studies that question how effective mindfulness approaches are and wonder if there are additional tools and techniques that need to be incorporated in mindfulness protocols.

After working in high schools for almost ten years, I also questioned where there might be some steps missing in both mindfulness protocols and general SEL training for teachers. My scholarly work in this area centers upon the question: What techniques, if any, might be added to mindfulness and SEL protocols, so that children can learn how to use spiritual dimensions of human experience and their own intuitive, imaginative realms to connect with higher senses of Self and Universe? What are some other habits of mind, body, and spirit that students, teachers, and administrators can cultivate in order to “raise the vibrational frequency” of  educational experiences in schools?

“Conscious Connection” Curricula Consulting For SEL Education

What would education at my institution look like if it were truly committed to cultivating the consciousness of each person’s divine connection to the universe and, thereby, to their individual senses of absolute wholeness?

How would we approach issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging if we used this lens — the lens of a luminous, heart-centered, love-inspired understanding of “conscious connection” — to design programming and course curricula?

In particular, how would we approach social and emotional learning (SEL) and development of students, faculty, and staff, if we elected to prioritize the cultivation of each person’s divine connection to their present communities, ancestors, understandings of the universe-at-large, and, most importantly, to their senses of Self?

And, so importantly: how do we use a “conscious connection” framework to make sure that social emotional learning in educational institutions promotes the cultivation and preservation of indigenous knowledge, as it locates and reforms practices that perpetuate racism and imperialism?

These are some of the questions I have wondered, as I have had numerous conversations with clients and colleagues over the past few years. We have wondered together about the ways we can approach our daily lesson plans, overarching curricula, and larger communal initiatives through the lens what I have come to call “Conscious Connection,” an SEL approach for the age of the Chthulucene. I am eager to work with any individual, school, and organization interested in creating curricula that honors epistemological frameworks of all cultural backgrounds represented in their communities.

Past and current clients and comrades include Oakwood SchoolInfluenceHers, Ubuntu Kenya, and Bakashana.
